Winthrop Art AssociationThe Winthrop Art Association was founded in 1969 by Beverly Brody Barisano and other local artists with the idea of promoting the arts in the community. In the 36 years since then, the Winthrop Art Association has grown to more than 180 members, and engages in a wide variety of activities that benefit both the artistic community and the town as well: The Annual Spring Arts Festival, the
main component of which is a juried exhibit featuring members of the
WAA and artists of surrounding communities. In addition, craft tables,
demonstrations by artisans and sometimes displays by local businesses,
round out a two-day event that invites and involves the community in
'The Arts Festival'. Two Scholarships for Excellence in Art, given by the WAA to a graduating Winthrop High School senior for further education in the arts. Monthly Membership Meetings, featuring demonstrations or lectures by artists in different media. Exhibits of WAA members' Works, around the town. Annually in the month of October is a non-juried display at the local Fleet Bank and an ongoing exhibit at the Winthrop Federal Credit Union where you can see an ever changing gallery of work by our members all year round. In September, we have Art on the Square, an annual event with artists demonstrating and selling their work in the Center of Winthrop for two Saturdays in a row. Chowder Festival, Individuals and restaurants
both vie for the best chowder title of the year. A very delicious event. Check
our events page for more information. Various Other Invited Shows such as The Winners Circle at Gallery Dupree , The MWRA Show etc. The general public is welcome at all events or activities
produced by the Winthrop Art Association. For further information,
Members of the Winthrop Art Association come from Winthrop and other North Shore towns, the metropolitan Boston area, as well as other states and countries. Their backgrounds are as varied as the works displayed at all events. |
