Tuesday, April 3, 2007 Demonstration will be Pauline Bacon showing her techniques in Watercolor. 

So save these dates and join us at the Winthrop Senior Center for our demos.  Address is 35 Harvard Street, Winthrop.  We gather at 7:30 pm and we invite everyone who wishes to attend.   Hope to see you there.

WAA’s Chili and Chowder Festival will be on Sat, March 3, 2007

We are looking for your special recipes for Chili or Chowder.  Anyone may enter.  Just contact Dawn Mahoney at 617-846-2644 or Brenda Curry at 617-846-5375.  There are two divisions, Restaurant and Individual.  This is a most delicious affair.  There is now cost to enter, all you have to do is provide the Chili or Chowder.  The WAA provides everything else. 

The fee for tasting is $5 each.  Each person will be given a ballot and then they vote for their favorite Chili and Chowder. 

The hours of the festival will tentatively be 11:30 to 2:30.

This year’s Spring Art Festival will be the weekend of April 28th and 29th.  There will be more information on that in the next newsletter.  Remember that you must be a paid up member to enter 3 pieces of artwork into the festival.  All others may put in two.   Also, in order to enter the festival your work must be recent and original.  There may be not copies of any kind.  You may use your own reference material only such as your own photos and ideas.  If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Mahoney at 617-846-2644 or Beverly Barisano at 617-846-5305.

Images 2006 Exhibition of Sacred Art and Poetry update;
This special show was held on the weekend of Nov. 3-5.  The Chairperson was Patricia Bruen Tacelli.  It was held at St. John’s The Evangelist Church.  Judge was Robert Farris, Jr., 1st place, Kimberly Christie for her photo “Hands of Time”, 2nd place, Dottie Doucette, “Angels of the Sea”, 3rd place Pauline Bacon, “Wells Beach”, Judge’s award to Alice Harrison for “Best Friends”, Honorable Mension to Pat Bonita, “Abandoned Church, Kari Sullivan “Apprentice Pillar at Roslyn Chapel”, Gert Honan’s “Mother Theresa”, Jeanette Lazarus, for “Study”, Lorraine Shannon, “Earth Dancer” and Most Popular, Stella Simione for “Madonna”.

FYI

Dawn Mahoney has been selected by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce to be the recipient of the “Excellence in the Arts Award for 2007”.  This award is given to someone in the Arts who makes a difference in the Community.  The awards banquet will be held at the Hyatt Harborside Hotel at Logan Airport, with tickets on sale now for $45.  All are invited to attend, but tickets must be purchased in advance at the Chamber office or by calling 617-846-9898.  The awards night will be held on Friday, January 26, 2007.

We have exciting news about one of our board members, Brenda Bee.  Brenda is expecting triplets in a few months.  Congrats Brenda!

Phil Ellin, our own nature/wildlife photographer, recently won a third place ribbon for his photo of “Three Baby Racoons” at the Peabody International Festival.  His entry won in the “professional” category.
