WAA May 2006 NEWSLETTER

June Dinner & Meeting will be held at Gary’s Crystal Cove Grille and Seafood Restaurant.  Contact Dawn Mahoney at 617-846-2644 as soon as possible.  The price is $25 per person and it will be a Buffet.  The restaurant located at 503 Shirley St., Winthrop.  Tuesday, June 6th, at 7pm.  This is a good opportunity to meet others in the WAA and officially vote in this year’s Board of Directors. Try and make it!

THIS YEARS FALL DAY TRIP will be to NEWPORT, RI.   Sunday, September 24th.  We will be going to the GREEN PLACES TOPIARY PARK, NEWPORT WINERY, and DOWNTOWN NEWPORT.  Lunch will be on your own.  There will be a taste of Rhode Island going on that day so there will be many places to eat for everyone.  We plan to take a ride to see all the Mansions too.  It should be a lot of fun.  The cost of the day trip is $60 per person.  You are to contact Dawn Mahoney at 617-846-2644 if you want to go.  This should be a most exciting trip this year!

Spring Art Festival recap

Wrap-up of this year’s art festival.  It was a resounding success and the new hours worked out very good.  We would like to thank everyone who supported the festival this year.  We want to definitely thank the people who helped set-up and took down the festival.  Without these individuals we would have been lost.  THANK YOU!!

JULY-ART ON  THE SQUARE, Saturday, July 15th

Any paid-up members may set-up in French Square in the Winthrop Center.  The hours are from 9AM to 2PM.  Contact Dorothy Mahoney at 617-846-2644 if you want to do this day in the park.  All you have to is set-up your own display and work and sell whatever you wish.  There is no charge or commission to the WAA.  This is completely free to the members. 

AUGUST-ART AT CREST AVE. PARK, Saturday, August 19th

Same as July Art In The Square, except that the location is at Crest Ave. Park, on Crest Ave., in the Highlands area of Winthrop.

 

GALLERY DUPREE HAS A NEW OWNER

The new owner of the gallery is Gina Rafferty.  Good-bye Dusty, and good luck in the future.  The WAA would like to welcome Gina into our art community.  Gina has a lot of new and exciting ideas about the gallery and how to serve us better.  Look for the new hours and more information to come.  You can still contact the gallery at the same number, 617-846-8469.

Gallery Dupree had their annual Winners Circle show with all the ribbon winners from the WAA Spring Art Festival.

The WAA would like to thank Michelle Fluet for her many years as Secretary.  She has done an exemplary job with great detail. Nothing was ever missed.  We will sadly miss her as our secretary.  We would also like to thank Renee Fluet for being our treasurer.  She kept the books beautifully and with great detail.  Thank you both for all your hard work.

 Greater Lynn Arts & Crafts had their annual Spring Art Festival on May 13 & 14.  Some of our members won ribbons and they are Catherine Costantino, 1st place for Graphics, Dorothy Mahoney, 3rd place for photography, Patricia Bruen Tacelli, honorable mention in Watercolor,  Pauline Bacon, 3rd place  in acrylics, Marilyn Chaulk, honorable mention in photography, Dottie Doucette, 2nd place in pastels, 1st place crafts, honorable mention in watercolor, Crist Filer, 3rd place in watercolor, Dorothea James, honorable  mention in oils, Stella Simione, 1st place in watercolor and Presidents Choice for watercolor.  Congratulations all.
